Assembly passes $18.9 billion budget
Raleigh — The N.C. General Assembly gave final approval to an $18.9 billion state budget for 2006-07 on Thursday, and now legislators are shifting their attention to finishing up other legislative work before adjourning for the year.
County discusses improving fire protection
At Monday evening’s regular Vance County Board of Commissioner’s meeting, members discussed steps towards improving the county’s fire insurance classification.
Frazco robbed, suspect apprehended
At 4:49 p.m. Monday afternoon, Henderson police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the Frazco, Inc. offices located at 315 S. Garnett Street.
Evans reports Beacon Light resident concerns
An email received yesterday from City Council member Mary Emma Evans expressed concern from Beacon Light Apartment residents over their present living conditions.
Library opening deemed success
Local dignitaries such as the Chair of the Embassy Foundation Board Sam Watkins, Henderson City Council members Mary Emma Evans and Garry Daeke, and County Manager Jerry Ayscue, among others, turned out for the official first day of business for the new H. Leslie Perry Memorial library yesterday morrning.
Rev. Dale arrested for domestic violence
The Reverend C.J. Dale was arrested recently on a domestic violence-related charge of misdemeanor assault on a female.
Citizens’ Advisory Committee presents zoning draft
J.H. Daniels presented the latest draft of the county zoning ordinance to the Vance County Board of Commissioners on behalf of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee at Monday evening’s meeting.
Library grand opening tomorrow
Thanks are given to Claire Ramsey, who both contributed to and sacrificed for this article. — Ed. The Grand Opening of the new H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library is set for tomorrow, Wednesday, July 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the new facility on 200 Breckenridge Street.
