We’ve got a few events for this coming Easter weekend, do you know of any more we can add to the calendar? The event yesterday in downtown was quite successful, we will get pictures up during the day today from that event. In the meantime, the below is yours…

Wednesday Open Line
An interesting bill was filed yesterday providing a new way to pay bonuses for our state school teachers. If enacted, school districts would be able to sell advertising space on school buses, and the proceeds would go towards bonus pay for exemplary teachers. There are limits as to the advertising content: no alcohol, tobacco, political or religious content allowed. Personally, as a business owner that would consider the advertisement, I very rarely see a school bus during my normal commute. …
Tuesday Open Line
Standard & Poor’s on Monday downgraded the outlook for the United States to negative, saying it believes there’s a risk U.S. policymakers may not reach agreement on how to address the country’s long-term fiscal pressures. I’m getting the feeling there is no long term plan for our countries monetary issues.
HiH Town Talk April 12, 2011
Finally got the audio (and video) from last weeks Town Talk. The town talk audio on the WIZS website was having issues with the volume going up and down. I’ve coupled the audio to my own video from my digital camera, and tried to level out the audio halfway decently. You’ll still notice volume changes, but this is the best I could do with what I have. Especially towards the end, the WIZS audio is missing all together, leaving just …

Wednesday Open Line
Tuesday (yesterday) morning, George Rush from WIZS gave me a call, and asked if I could be at the radio station in about 15 minutes to be on town talk. I said sure, if you think it would be of interest, and jotted down some quick notes and took off down the street. I put a quick comment on tuesday’s open line about it just before I left, so I apologize for the no warning. However, WIZS put’s the hour …
Employee’s Right to Medical Privacy
There is a bill currently in evaluation at the North Carolina Legislature that if enacted, would allow your employer rights to certain medical records if you become disabled or filing for workers compensation. The employer would not need the employee’s permission to access the records. The text of the bill contains the following: an employer is entitled, without the express authorization of the employee, to obtain medical records of the employee and communicate with an employee’s health care providers if …
Tuesday Open Line
I’d like to thank everyone for the warm welcome! Still checking out some a few bugs, an issue with password changes not functioning properly, and have modified the way we count comment ratings. Thanks to mudball and Ira for the tips. I know Ira didn’t mean any wrong, he was just testing it out like I asked everyone to do. However, I had to modify a policy I hoped to keep. Unfortunately, for those that knew how, it was possible …
New Website Changes
We’d like to thank everyone for trying to be patient during our downtime. A few people started a few conversations on our facebook, and we have received numerous emails inquiring when are we coming back?! We’re terribly sorry for the website down time, however things unexpected happened rather quickly and we were forced to play catch up. We have been busy redesigning what you see here, from what you can see on your screen to behind the scenes as well. …
HiH Website Update
Due to mounting health concerns, I am unable to continue as the editor and publisher of Home in Henderson. I’ve known this day would come since I had my heart attack in 2008. It is only sheer cussedness that has allowed me to continue as long as I have since then. And I’ve paid the price.
Time Out Tuesday
Tuesday, April 12th area ‘volunteers’ will be put in Time Out in a child care center for one hour. To gain freedom once again, they must raise $250 by calling local citizens for pledges. Child care centers are in both Henderson and Louisburg with the Henderson location being Sugar N Spice on Horner Street. This activity is a fundraiser for the Franklin Granville Vance Smart Start organization.
